A Normal Day When I Was A Kid: A Poem

When asked about the best phase of one's life, the most common answer comes up to be childhood. And why not? It is such a pure, innocent, joyous, and responsibility-free life.

You get to do what you like. Your mistakes aren't treated like a crime; instead, they're turned into light-hearted jokes that make people laugh.

It is a time when you are genuine without any filters—a kind heart who only wishes to play and be happy. Always cheerful, full of energy, and ready for new experiences.

The memories you make are remembered for a lifetime. There's a different kind of happiness in remembering these stories and narrating them countless times. Giving you satisfaction and leaving a smile on your face every time.

For me, this poem is a happy memory —a normal day of my childhood, which I treasure.

It's half past afternoon,

I'm back from school.

Feasting on in a hurry,

Rustling up for coaching.

Kick-starting a bike, off I go,

Midway through the road,

The light gradually diminishes,

Dark clouds sheath the sun.

Clouds crashing in the sky,

Raindrop gently falls on my eye.

Rainwater merges with the soil,

Imparting scent of earthy life.

I pull over to wear a coat,

To save books from the downpour,

Leaving my head uncovered,

Relishing the rainy weather.

Riding away slowly,

Singing out my joyous heart.

Clasping on the little things,

Making me more alive.

I reach the end of the stretch,

Completely drenched, I realize,

Sitting soaked for hours was trifling,

The exuberance felt was all I cared.

What is the memory that makes you smile even today?

What was your normal day?
